Like we said previously, Henry Chebaane, the man behind the all-new O-Tabbi is looking to turn your luck and fortune with his take on the Lucky Cat as Henry presents to you the third instalment from the Cyberneko series, O-Tabbi with the all-new colourway MOON BLOOM edition.
The MANEKI-NEKO 招き猫 (beckoning cat) is a symbol of luck and prosperity, found in many homes and businesses throughout Asia and much of the world.
“CYBERNEKO” is the 21st-century version of a tribe of lucky cats, created by French-British author, artist and designer Henry Chebaane, inspired by his love of Cyberpunk stories, Manga, Anime and Asian cultures.
He is the author of the cult steampunk graphic novel series THE PANHARMONION CHRONICLES, a blend of mystery, horror, sci-fi and alternative history.
It is while writing his new novel KINGDOM UNITED, (due out 2025), that the idea for “CYBERNEKO” came to him. The story is about Neeta Rao, a Singaporean botanist who becomes a vigilante on the streets of London. She has multiple family issues and find comfort in the company of the cats she rescues. In her flat, she keeps a collectable toy as a reminder of her childhood in Katong.
This collectable toy is a cool cat called “O -TABBI”. Her mother used to tell the bedtime story of a regular tabby cat roaming the back alleys at night to defend his neighbourhood against all sorts of nasty people. Because of this, everyone was referring to him with the Japanese honorific prefix “O”.
This latest version of CYBERNEKO is called ‘Moon Bloom’ to honour the renewal cycle of Spring symbolised by the Sakura blossom adorning her shield. Her body is painted in a cool lunar white with warm grey stripes. The ears, nose, shield and collar are accented in soft, shimmering metallic copper, while her eyes have large black pupils surrounded by a thin gold rim.
Henry Chebaane is also an award-winning restaurant designer, so expect to see versions of these lucky cats decorating some of his cool projects around the world.
The CYBERNEKO collection is a punk rock family of MANEKI-NEKO 招き猫 (beckoning cat) and MOON BLOOM is the cheeky little sister in this alternative reality.
She might look cute, but don’t try to stroke her or even approach if your intentions are less than honourable. With just a stare, she could cast a curse upon your soul, lasting a thousand years. However, if you are one of the good people of this earth who care and respect other animals, she will bring you joy and prosperity for as long as you respect her independent spirit.
MOON BLOOM stands at 23cm/9″ high of pure, awesome, feline cheekiness.
PLEASE NOTE that each figure is cast in vinyl, then hand-painted in 5 colours. She has been cast in five parts, so theoretically her head and shoulders can rotate, but it is advisable not to play with i,t and it is definitely NOT FOR CHILDREN.
It might look like a toy, but it is really a collectable best left on your shelf to greet and beckon you, each day, with a little bit of joy and cheeky good humour.
